Alert Neighbor Meeting 8/16/11 08/25/2011
A big THANK YOU to all who attended our informative Alert Neighbor Meeting on August 16th. We had two guest speakers. Ross Ford who is head of Union Securty and Carol Bush who is in charge of the Alert Neighbor Commission. A handful of things were discussed, but most importantly issues involving truancy and loitering associated with Union I-High. While most may not be aware, there is alot of students who skip school and cut thru our neighborhood in an attempt to not be seen. They jump fences into yards and have damaged property at times. Ross Ford started off the meeting by addressing these issues, we as a neighborhood have. Most times after calling the school, we have been told to call 911 because there is nothing the school can do once the kids are off their property. Our question back was that it is their job to keep them on the property not ours and that there should be some program in place for that. He explained that they do hire some off duty police officers and SRO (school resource officer) but that they are stretched thin with dividing there time between the I-High and High School. One idea was for our neighbor hood was to hire some off duty police officers to deal with the loitering on the corner and parents picking up their kids in our neighborhood entrance or right on Garnett, to help stop this dangerous problem. We were also advised that the more we call the police about situations like this in our neighborhood, they will see a repetitive problem and patrol more. Some others ideas are posting no parking or loitering signs at the front entrance for certain times of the day. We welcome all ideas to help with this ongoing problem.
Our second guest speaker was Carol Bush of Alert Citizen Commission. Carol's advise to us was for all of us as neighbors, get out and meet each other. Get a phone number of your neighbor so if you see their garage door up or their dog out you can call them. Be alert, light up our homes, criminals like it when we keep it dark. Pay attention to what is going on in our neighborhood ie: strange cars, solicitors ect. Call the police if you see something suspicious. By getting to know our neighbors, we are protecting each other and protecting our wonderful neighborhood!

I want to also remind everyone of our upcoming Block Party coming up October 16th. A great time to get out and meet your neighbors and have a great time! We will have sign ups for block captains and info about how we can stay connected and protected from crime at the Block Party.
Some other great ideas thrown out were:
Speed Bumps
Facebook Page
Neighborhood Day to Clear out the low lying brushy area at the pond
What do you think? Let us know.
HOA Dues 08/24/2011
This year the board voted to raise our annual HOA dues to $110.00 per year. According to our by-laws we are only allowed to raise them by 5% per year and since we have not raised them in several years we thought it was an appropriate time to do so.
Please accept our apologies for some confusion in the billing process, while printing the new dues letter out we mistakenly didn't change the total at the end of the letter to $110.00 from the $105.00 they were last year. Everyone should have received a hand delivered correction to the dues and if you did not please feel free to email Paul Wolfenberger
Alert Neighbors Program 08/15/2011
Join us this Tuesday, August 16th at 7:00 pm at Liberty Church for a meeting with Carol Bush of the Alert Neighbors Program.
After receiving complaints and dealing with vandalism in our park the HOA has taken steps to form an Alert Neighbors group in our neighborhood. Everyone is welcome to attend and help us become proactive in dealing with some of the truants and other problems that have arisen.
In addition, we have invited the Chief of Security from the Intermediate High School to directly address the problems with the teens that skip school and wander through our neighborhood and the after school parking issue.
